In this week’s staff spotlight, we get to know Dr. Kelly Everson, a dedicated psychologist at Palm Beach Behavioral Health & Wellness in Jupiter, FL. Specializing in working with children, teens, and families, Dr. Everson is passionate about Autism Spectrum Disorder and mentoring future clinicians. What inspired you to pursue a career in mental health?
Psychology classes were my "fun" classes in college so at some point I just realized this was a better fit for me than biology (my original major!). In graduate school, I loved learning how to help kids, especially.
What’s your favorite part of working at PBBHW?
I love the therapists here and the energy they give off - everyone is in it for their clients and bettering themselves!
If you could give one piece of advice to someone starting therapy, what would it be?
Trust the process!
What do you love most about working with children, teens, or families?
Kids are resilient. Adults - not so much in my opinion haha! I love watching kids make changes and grow.
What’s a fun fact about you most people don’t know?
I come from a military family and grew up in Wisconsin!
What motivates you on tough days?
Kids naturally want to change. grow and function up.
What’s your favorite quote or mantra right now?
We can do hard things.
What area of mental health are you most passionate about?
Autism Spectrum Disorder and training future clinicians!
What’s a small joy in your daily routine?
COFFEE!
What’s one thing you’ve learned from your clients?
My clients have taught me resilience for almost 20 years- something I am so grateful for in my personal life!
If you weren’t in this field, what would you be doing instead?
I would have loved to be an OB/GYN - medical school was my original plan until I fell in love with psychology.
