In this Q&A, you’ll get to know Dr. Quattlebaum beyond her professional expertise - from what inspired her path in mental health to the small joys that brighten her day.

What inspired you to pursue a career in mental health?
My journey into this work began in an unconventional place: my family's funeral home. Growing up there, I learned that one of the most vital human roles is to be present with others in their moments of greatest vulnerability and the profound importance of bearing witness to human pain. As a teenager, I discovered the field of psychology and was captivated by its ability to blend science, philosophy, and humanity. It gave me a path to transform my early understanding of grief into a professional mission: to help people navigate their healing and build a life where they can truly flourish.

What’s one self-care practice you never skip?
Engaging in prayer and gratitude daily.

What’s a book or podcast you often recommend to clients?
Man’s Search for Meaning by Viktor Frankl.

What’s a fun fact about you most people don’t know?

The "middle child" label fits me in a uniquely symmetrical way. I'm the middle of three siblings, but what's more remarkable is my place among my cousins. On both my mother's and father's sides of the family, I am the 10th cousin out of 19.

What area of mental health are you most passionate about?

Working toward prevention, specifically preventing Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs).

What’s a small joy in your daily routine?

The latte my husband makes for me every morning.

What’s one thing you’ve learned from your clients?

My clients have shown me that the healing process is often challenging and nonlinear, but that investing in yourself is always worth it. They have taught me that true strength is not the absence of pain, but rather the courage to move through it so that you can be the most authentic and resilient version of yourself.

Dr. Quattlebaum's compassion, expertise, and commitment to each client make her an invaluable part of the PBBHW team, and we’re grateful for the opportunity to share a glimpse into the heart behind her work.
